KOZHIKODE,kerala: One more farmer ended his life in neighbouring Wayanad District, the third to commit suicide due to debts in the last two days, as the Central fact-finding team on a visit there to study the situation continued parleys with various farmers associations .
After he was reported missing since last night, 54-year old Damodaran's body was recovered from near his house this morning at Kalluvadi and he ended his life allegedly due to mounting debt that included over Rs two lakh availed as loan from four banks, police said.
One farmer each ended their lives in Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram allegedly owing to debts.
The Central team, led by Planning Commission Member R Bandhopadhyaya, held wideranging talks with various farmers groups, including the Farmers Relief Forum.
The team is on a three-day visit to the state to analyse the reasons that forced the farmers to end their lives.
Earlier, the team visited the families of farmers who had ended their lives in the recent past in the district. The officials are also scheduled to hold discussions with the state Cooperation and Agriculture Ministers before meeting the Chief Minister, V S Achuthanandan in Thiruvananthapuram on June 10. The fact-finding team had said that it would submit its report to the Centre within 15 days.
