Students protest Bajaj's anti-quota stand

Bhupen Patel,  NDTV, Saturday, June 10, 2006 (Mumbai):

Pro-reservation supporters shouted slogans against industrialist Rahul Bajaj at a function in Mumbai where he was being honoured.

Bajaj faced an irate mob of protestors, angry over his anti-reservation stance.

A month ago, Ratan Tata was similarly targeted by pro-reservation activists at the very same venue.

The issue of Bajaj's Rajya Sabha candidature also refused to lie low.

While Bajaj's candidature for the Rajya Sabha is supported by the NCP, the BJP and the Shiv Sena, the Congress has chosen to field its own candidate.

Bajaj, while commenting on Sanjay Nirupam's comments about his candidature, said that the latter had just entered the Congress, whereas his family had been with the party for 70 years.

The function was organized by Marathwada Vikas Manch at Ravindra Natya Mandir in Prabhadevi suburb of Mumbai
