Chandigarh: The CBI today arrested an Intelligence Officer of Narcotics Control Bureau here on the charge of demanding and accepting Rs 40,000.
Ravikant Panwar allegedly accepted the amount from complainant Devinder Kumar of Sarwari Bazar, Kullu, a CBI release said here adding he was arrested under Prevention of Corruption Act.
The complainant's brother was arrested by the NCB, Chandigarh on February 9,2005 in a NDPS case along with two foreigners.
Ravikant Panwar approached Devinder that he would help his brother during trial in tendering evidence of witnesses in favour of his brother but he did not want to pay the bribe.
Panwar again approached Devinder yesterday and demanded Rs 40,000 and threatened that in case of non payment of bribe he will forfeit his land as well as land of his brother and also threatened that he will harass his relatives, the release alleged.
Devinder approached the CBI, Chandigarh, and lodged a complaint. After preliminary verification in which contents of complaint were found prima facie correct, a case was registered and Panwar was arrested while demanding and accepting the money in presence of independent witnesses.
