KOLKATA, June 24. Statesman, Calcutta,
A 22-year-old Bangladeshi woman was allegedly raped by a Border Security Force (BSF) jawan at a BSF camp near Swarupnagar in North 24-Parganas late last night. The woman lodged a complaint with Basirhat police station; she has been sent for medical examination.
Mr Praveen Kumar, superintendent of police, North 24-Parganas, confirmed having received the complaint, but said that the BSF jawan was yet to be arrested and that investigation was on.
According to reports, the woman was intercepted near the Indo-Bangladesh border at Hakimpur by a BSF patrol party while she was crossing the international border. One of the jawans reportedly asked her to accompany him to the nearest BSF camp, as official proceedings would have to be initiated because of her illegal entry to India.
The woman told police that after she entered the camp, she was led into an empty room where the jawan raped her. She somehow managed to flee at night and took shelter at a villager’s house. sns
