JAJPUR, June 25, Statesman News Service,
In a new twist to the Kalinga Nagar incident, the judicial commission headed by Mr Justice AS Naidu of Orissa High Court probing the 2 January police firing, yesterday sent for forensic test a piece of iron object that was retrieved from the neck of Tuna Jarika, one of the victims of the police firing in the Kalinga Nagar area.
It assumes significance in the light of allegations by villagers that the police had resorted to certain “ in human tactics” to silence the agitating tribals and even used bayonets to kill innocent tribals opposing the ground levelling work being done by Tata Steel at the Kalinga Nager Industrial Complex.
The iron object was recovered from Tuna’s neck during the post-mortem examination at the community health centre at Danagadi in the district. The report, which has since been submitted to the commission, has has reportedly said that the object was not a bullet.
The commission in its order has asked the state forensic laboratory to examine the iron object of unusual size.
