Kollam, June. 26 (PTI): Fourteen activists of the CPI(M)'s youth wing – Democratic Youth Federation of India – today suffered burns while agitating against the petro prices hike when the flag poles they were carrying came in contact with a live electric wire over the railway line, police said.
The workers were coming in a procession to the railway track to picket trains as part of their state-wide agitation, carrying flags tied to aluminium poles.
The condition of two of them was stated to be serious and they had been shifted to the Medical College Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram, police said. Others sustained only minor injuries, the sources said.
Railway sources said they had issued a notice asking people to be cautious about the line which was being tested.
The State Human Rights Commission member V P Mohankumar visited the injured in the hospital and said the Commission would submit a report to the government on the incident.
