Jaipur – Police Saturday arrested two people in Rajasthan for blocking the wedding procession of a Dalit man, injuring members of his group and destroying property, including generators and lights.

Miscreants obstructed the wedding procession coming from Sikar district at Rampura village in Shahpura, 60 km from here Friday, said eyewitnesses.

The Dalit bridegroom was forced to dismount his horse after being pelted with stones, they added.

Many people in the procession suffered injuries and were rushed to a local hospital in Shahpura following police intervention.

The police also arrested two people and registered a case against them under scheduled caste/scheduled tribe atrocities act. The procession then resumed under police protection.

‘We have arrested two youths on the basis of a report lodged by the relatives of the bridegroom,’ said a police official from Shahpura.

The main cause of the injuries was a stampede that took place after the youth broke the generator and the procession lights, he added.
