CPI (M] Worker's Death : Top RSS leader remanded

KANNUR, JUNE 4, 2006

Mr. Valsan Thillankery, (35)  a top leader of RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh)  in North Kerala was arrested  yesterday noon in connection with the murder of a Communist Party of India (Marxist) worker,  K.V. Yakub (24).  Valsan is the State Secretary of Hindu Aikya Vedi (HAV) a joint council of 57 Hindu organizations in Kerala. HAV is is in the controle of RSS, a hindu extremist organization with fascist agenda throughout India.  CPM worker had been hacked to death by a group of suspected RSS workers at Kottathekunnu, near Meethale Punnad, at around 10 p.m. on 13th June 2006. The arrested , Mr. Valsan Thillankery  holds the position " Vibhak Pracharak" of RSS. 

Mr. Valsan, who was a cement mason in Thillankeri Village, have grown to a superior leader of Hindu extremists within a short time. He has been remanded for 14 days in Thalassery Sub Jail, by Mattannur First Class Judicial Magistrate as the Police investigations found him as one of the key gang leader who orchestrated the murder.

The arrest was done from  Pragathi Vidya Nikethan parallel college, near Iritty, in which he was the Principal. Another District leader of RSS, Mr. Villangeri Shankaran, who is the first accused in the murder case,  is still absconding. The Third  and Fourth accused in the murder case also been remanded.

Earlier, police taken a few  other RSS activists, including  Valsan Thillankery, into preventive custody. 14 Sangh Parivar workers had been identified as assailants who carried out the murder of CPI(M) worker.

Mr. Valsan Thillankery was the first accused in the murder of the National Development Front (NDF) worker, P.V. Muhammad, at Punnad near Iritty on June 2004. Fearing a police arrest he left to Mumbai and appeared in the court after 3 months. Within this time, by influencing sangh parivar forces in police, his name was dropped down  to the 26th position.

Years back, a CPI(M) worker Mr. Bijootty was killed near Valsan's home in a political clash. In a similar incident, a driver from minority community, called Salam was killed by RSS gang in the same area. Valsan is infamous for hate speeches against minorities in north Kerala. During Marad riots, the police submitted FIR against him for highly inflammatory speeches. But  compulsion from sangh parviar forces prevented further legal proceedings. 

One day-long  hartal was called by the RSS in the Kannur District  to protest against the arrest of their  supreme leader.
