SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Saturday constituted a three-member cabinet sub-committee headed by Deputy Chief Minister Muzaffar Hussain Baig to monitor the implementation of recommendations of the state human rights commission, an official spokesman said.
Baig will be convener of the sub-committee that will carry out periodic reviews of the implementation of special schemes framed during 2005 for rehabilitating former militants, the spokesman said.
Transport Minister Mangat Ram Sharma and Power Minister Rigzin Jora will be the other members of the panel.
Faced with an increase in allegations of human rights abuses by the security forces, Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad had on Friday announced the formation of the committee. He had said a lot of complaints regarding rights violations were received recently and the government had decided to set up the cabinet sub-committee to look into the issue.
"While we are making all out efforts to root out terrorism, we also feel that we have to ensure zero human rights violations," Azad had said.
