Ahmedabad – A man detained for theft in a police station killed a police officer in the lock-up, the Gujarat police said here Tuesday.
The accused, Vanraj Chavda attacked assistant sub-inspector Ramkrishna Parab when the latter was serving food Monday night, said Anand District Superintendent of Police B.S. Jebaliya.
‘Chavda attacked the officer apparently to get hold of keys of his handcuffs and smashed his head against the wall. The officer was rushed to a hospital where he died of brain haemorrhage,’ said Jebaliya.
Chavda, a resident of Kankhanda village of Vadodara district, was detained Monday for stealing a motorcycle.
The accused, however, has alleged that he attacked the official only after he was denied permission to use the toilet, according to police.
Police were investigating the matter.
