Members of the Karnataka Komu Souharda Vedike (KKSV) staged a dharna in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office here on Saturday seeking a ban on Shoba Yatra and Datta Jayanthi Abhiyan to be held by the Sangh Parivar from October 2 to 8.
They demanded that the "false" cases filed against the members, who held a meeting in Chikmagalur on September 27 seeking a ban on Shoba Yatra and the abhiyan, be withdrawn. They said the Shimoga district administration was acting as a puppet of the "communal" forces and urged the Government not to give in to the pressure tactics of the Sangh Parivar to allow Shoba Yatra and the abhiyan.
The members condemned the reported remarks by Minister for Higher Education D.H. Shankaramurthy against Tipu Sultan and appealed to the Government to drop him from the Ministry.
Basavaraj Devaru of Mansur Math addressed the members.
