Kozhikode: A 71 year old man, Mr. Mambilikuni Moideenkutty Haji was injured when a crude bomb thrown at the Mangaladu mosque in Ayancherry Grama Panchayat limits exploded at around 4.30 a.m. on Monday.
The mosque is near Villiyappally in Vadakara Police Station limits. Witness reports says the explosion was heard around 5 kms distance from the site. In a similar hindutva terrorist attack against a muslim mosque against Vallikunnam in Alleppey district on February 23, 2005 killed one Muslim man and injuried two others, including the head priest.
Injured in the eye, hand and feet, Mr. Moideen kutty haji was taken to the Vadakara Government Taluk Hospital and later to the Government Medical College Hospital in Kozhikode.
The police believe miscreants trying to whip up communal tension are behind the incident, suspected to be a planned attempt.
The bomb was thrown after cutting power supply to the mosque. An all-party meeting was held in the evening.
The Vadakara Police have registered a case. Kozhikode Rural Superintendent of Police T.M. Aboobacker visited the spot.
Vadakara Circle Inspector Jaison K. Abraham is investigating the case. So far, no one has been arrested.
Mangaladu is notorious for clashes between criminal gangs of RSS or its political head BJP, CPI(Marxist), the IUML.
A month ago, the house of Mr. K.M. Baburaj, who is a local body member and the leader of Communist Party was attacked with bombs by sangh parivar criminals in the same area. As a response to attack against CPM members, Mr. Mohan, a local RSS leader was severly injured. Similarly, the house of a mulsim priest, Mr. Akkarol Moideen Musliar was also bombed by the hindutva criminals.
