Arrears from 150 hindu temples reaches Rs. 4 crore

Kanhangad: Devaswom Minister G. Sudhakaran has said that action will be taken against the temple authorities who have failed to pay the arrears to the Government.

Addressing presspersons here on Sunday, the Minister said revenue recovery proceeding would be taken against the officials concerned who failed to remit the Government's share of revenue on time. The recovery would be made from the officials, and not by selling the temple assets as proposed by the officials, he clarified. The Government was yet to receive arrears amounting to Rs.4 crore from 150 temples. The Government would examine how the Boards used the funds provided to them. The Malabar Devaswom Board would be formed in 2007, he said.

The Government was considering making available loans to the poor and needy women at 4 per cent interest through cooperative banks to enable them to get married, the Minister said.
