The UP Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav said that even though the percentage of Muslims in total population is not as high, 80% of labour intensive hand work in the country is being done by them. He also said that during his tenure as defence minister, he came to know that the percentage of Muslims was only 2% in the Army, while 145 of Kargil war martyrs were Muslims.
The CM said that madarsas are spreading brotherhood and not terrorism as being portrayed by some. Even the home minister of the country was projecting madarsas as terror training camps, alleging that they had links with SIMI. "So I had to come out in open in support of madarsas," Yadav said adding that not madarsas but institutions like Saraswati Shishu Mandir were breeding hatred.
He also referred to the IB report that hinted that the chief minister of one of the north Indian states had links with ISI. He claimed that the report actually referred to him and he was being indicted as he supports the Muslims and has their support in return.
Referring to the Congress indirectly, he accused it of deliberately keeping the masses poor and ignorant. He said that poverty and illiteracy were not being eliminated from the country under a conspiracy by the people who have ruled at the Centre for long.
Jauhar University in Rampur, though facing financial difficulties temporarily, will be one of the best university in the world. It will be open to people of all caste and high quality education will be imparted here.
He also spoke about difficulties faced in making Urdu a second official language of the state.
He announced that 5,000 more teachers will be recruited. As many as 3,200 teachers have already joined.
