State Additional Chief Secretary A K Agarwal, who is in Mangalore on a two-day visit, received as many as 370 petitions from the people who were affected by the communal violence in Mangalore last month.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Mr Agarwal said that the government had asked him to submit a report on the Mangalore violence within a fortnight. He said that he would ask the government to extend the time, if he was not able to prepare the report within 15 days. Mr Agarwal said that he had received petitions related to police atrocities, nature of violence, individual untoward incidents and damage to public property to name a few.
When queried about his observations on the Mangalore violence, Mr Agarwal said, “It is too early to make any observations.” He also visited various riot hit places in Mangalore and the nearby areas and collected information.
