Sudarshan vents his feelings to George Fernandes
NEW DELHI: Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s continued rise after two-and-half years of the UPA government is worrying the RSS. The Hindutva brigade is conscious that even if the people are angry with the government on certain issues, it is not reflecting on Sonia’s stock.
The fact that RSS is worried was revealed when RSS chief KS Sudarshan met NDA convener George Fernandes last week. Sources at the meeting said the RSS chief was apprehensive of Sonia’s rising profile in the country.
The RSS goes by its own assessment based on the feedback from its cadre spread across the country. It is also feeling the offensive unleashed by the human resource development minister Arjun Singh. The Hindutava brigade has so far not been able to contain Singh.
Sudarshan’s statements indicate that he has realised that the infighting between the RSS and the BJP has been counterproductive. Thus there is a tentative move to regroup and take on a common political rival.
Fernandes told Sudarshan that he has been trying to harp on unity between the BJP and RSS. But it seemed the RSS was putting its energy in fighting its own leaders than the Congress.
