Mumbai, Nov 24: A local court today issued summons to Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray asking him to appear before it on February 08 following a petition accusing him of arousing communal passions and indulging in contempt of court.

Metropolitan Magistrate M B Date of railway mobile court issued the summons on a plea by Advocate Munna Tripathi.

The court had summoned Thackeray twice earlier in the case but he did not appear citing his old age and ill-health.

Tripathi has sought action against Thackeray under Section 153-A IPC (promoting enmity between two different groups on the grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language etc) and for indulging in contempt of court.
