Tarn Taran (Punjab), Dec 03: At least 10 people were injured in a clash here today between activists of the Shiv Sena and Shiromani Akali Dal-Amritsar that was sparked by the alleged burning of an effigy of SAD-A chief Simranjit Singh Mann.
Irked by the reports of the burning of the effigy by Sena activists, SAD-A supporters attacked them with swords, senior Superintendent of police Parveen Kumar Sinha said.
Dozens of supporters of both groups clashed with sticks and swords, officials said.
Sinha said ten people were injured in the clash.
However, Sinha said the Shiv Sena activists were protesting in a democratic manner and they had burnt the effigy of some "fundamentalists" and not that of Mann.
Shiv Sena leader Kuku and some of his supporters, who received minor injuries, were admitted to the government hospital here.
The situation is under control, Sinha said.
Reports suggested the Sena allegedly burnt an effigy of former MP Mann after he wrote an article in a vernacular magazine that contained what the activists described as "derogatory" references to their organisation.
