Accused remanded to judicial custody for two weeks
TIRUR: The main accused in a sex racket case surrendered before Judicial First Class Magistrate N.R. Krishnakumar here on Friday afternoon. The surrender of Sudheer Cherumelath, 31, before the court at 4.30 p.m. came as a relief to the police team that was investigating the Vailathur-based case.
Mr. Sudheer came to the office of lawyer V. Patmakumar in a sports utility vehicle at 3.30 p.m. Mr. Patmakumar presented him before the judge, who remanded him in judicial custody for two weeks.
Five other accused in the case had already been arrested and another surrendered. The abduction and repeated rape of the victim had caused much uproar here a few months ago. The girl had been taken to different places in the State and abused continually. The case took a turn when two men who protected the girl after she escaped from the hands of her abductors were attacked. The people of Vailathur had been on a warpath demanding stringent action against those involved.
