UAE Minister apprised of the concerns about new labour policies
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister V. S. Achuthanandan has conveyed the concerns of Keralites over the new labour polices of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to the visiting Labour Minister of United Arab Emirates Ali Abdullah Al Kaabi.
The Chief Minister had a brief discussion with Mr. Al Kaabi on Friday morning. Mr. Achuthanandan brought to his notice that several Keralites were in UAE jails for no fault of theirs.
Later, delivering the key-note address at the inauguration of the pre-departure orientation programme organised by the Non-Resident Keralites' Affairs Department, the UAE Minister said that special courts would be set up to solve the problems in the labour front in his country. Provisions would be brought in the new labour law for eliminating middlemen from the recruitment process.
The Minister noted that more than 60 per cent of the foreigners working in his country were from Kerala.
The Chief Minister, who inaugurated the programme, said that the programme would help to end exploitation of those seeking jobs abroad. Many job seekers had been cheated because of their ignorance about global job markets.
