KOZHIKODE: Mandakini Narayanan, one of the front-runners of the naxalite movement in the State, died here on Saturday. She was 82. She is survived by daughter K. Ajitha, naxalite-turned human rights activist.
Popularly known as Ma, Mandakini is the wife of the late Naxal leader Kunnikkal Narayanan. She along with her husband and daughter had led several agitations waged by naxalites in the State. She was arrested and sent to jail in the Pulpally and Thalassery police stations attack cases. She also served jail sentence of two-and-a-half years during the Emergency. Mandakini was born to a Gujati couple, Navin Chandra Osa and Urvashi Osa. She worked with the undivided Communist Party while studying in Mumbai. She was cremated at the Mavoor Road crematorium.
