THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Passport Office here has introduced an upgraded system for online registration of passport applications. The main advantage of the system is that applicants need not stand in the queue. They only have to report at counter no. 6 at the time and date given, an official press note quoting Thiruvananthapuram Passport Officer R.C. Nair said here on Monday.
To use the new facility, the applicant has to log on to the web site http://passport.gov.in and select the online registration option. The general information will be displayed on the screen. The applicant has to click on `continue' to access the online registration form.
Applicants hailing from Pathanamthitta, Kollam or Thiruvananthapuram districts may select the window for Passport Office, Thiruvananthapuram, the district to which he/ she belongs and the type of service required such as fresh passport or renewal before entering the details such as name, date of birth and address in the format appearing on the window.
After pressing the `save' option, the computer automatically generates a reference number and a tentative date and time for submitting the application form at the passport office counter in person. The applicant has the option to select a later date for submission. After confirming the date and time, the applicant can print the completed form in triplicate.
The application is submitted at counter no. 6 with supporting documents after pasting the photograph and affixing the signature. The upgraded facility for registration will come into effect immediately, Mr.Nair said.
