SP facilitating Hindu conclave: Jagdambika Pal

Hindustan Times , Gorakhpur, February 14

BILLING THE third World Hindu Conference at Allahabad a “political conclave”, senior Congress leader and former State president of the party Jagdambika Pal said here that the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) was raising controversial issues to polarise the vote banks in view of the forthcoming UP assembly elections. He also blamed the SP-led State Government of rolling out the red carpet for the Hindu conference.

Lambasting the VHP and BJP, Pal said that while BJP was in power for six years the construction of Ram temple at Ayodhya was put on the backburner and now that the polls were round the corner they had once again brought the issue to the forefront. He also condemned the SP for according hospitality to the BJP and VHP.

Talking to mediapersons, Pal said the State Government had provided Rs 800 crore for organising the World Hindu Conference and claimed that as United Progressive Alliance, Congress would forge an alliance with regional parties to keep SP and BJP from grabbing power.

He blamed SP to be hand in glove with the BJP in flaring up communal tension for vested political interests.

Criticising the State Government for suspending district magistrate of Gorakhpur Dr Hariom and SSP Raja Srivastav, he said the decision had boosted the morale of communal forces, adding that in the recent communal disturbance, purvanchal had faced a loss of at least Rs 500 crore. Continuing his offensive against the State Government, Pal said anarchy was prevailing in the State and nobody was safe. Though Chief  Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav had promised that all the sugar mills would start functioning  in the crushing season, sugar mills were still closed. Farmers were not getting fertilizers, he added.

Pal clarified that the Congress leadership was in touch with the Rashtriya Lok Dal, Rashtriya Janata Dal, Bharat Samaj Party and other like-minded
political parties to forge an alliance before the UP assembly election.

He said eastern UP was ignored by the State Government in the allocation of budget for development work and the entire budget was diverted towards the development of Saifai.
