Kalpetta: A general secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the State has been sentenced to four months in prison by a local court in connection with a 2003 agitation which turned violent.
M.T. Ramesh, the then Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha leader, and 23 others were convicted for destroying public property during the agitation at District Medical Office here on December 4, 2003 alleging that Adivasis in Wayanad were being subjected to mass sterilisation by the Health authorities. Ramesh and others were sent to the sub-jail in Kozhikode on Wednesday night after First Class Judicial Magistrate Santhosh Luka pronounced the order. – PTI
