Kundapur: Karani Ameer has registered a complaint against the Kundapur police in the Kundapur police station that PSI Satish Kumar and his colleagues has killed his son Karani Mateen (25). According to the complaint Amir said that Kundapur PSI Satish Kumar had earlier threatened to kill his son through encounter which he did eventually last night. As this news spread, members of KFD and other organizations gathered outside Kundapur government hospital and the atmosphere got tensed. To control the law and order situation, additional police force was called and deployed outside the hospitals and important corners of the road.
According to the complaint his son Mateen had left home at around 10.00 pm on the night of 1st April. Mateen had left home on Pickup. Later, in the wee hours of 2 April morning at 1.45am, two youths of Kandloor, Mudassir and Naushad informed him that Kundapur PSI Satish Kumar and his two companions Raghu and the jeep driver Saleem had thrown Mateen into Kandloor River after brutally beating him, causing his death. Immediately after receiving this news, Ameer reached Kandaloor River, where he got the news that his son’s dead body has been taken to Kundapur government hospital. In his complaint, Ameer has said that earlier Kundapur PSI had threatened him that he would kill his son in encounter.Talking to the press reporter Mr. Karani Ameer told presspersons at Kundapur that his son Mateen was an active member of Popular Front of India and was enthusiastically involved in solving the problems of the Muslim community. This was the reason for which local police planned to kill his son.
Amir added that he believed that the police had killed his son. A Police Inspector of the Kundapur police station had earlier threatened to kill Matin in an encounter. He had also threatened to kill both him (Mr. Amir) and Matin. In yet another incident, the Inspector had placed a revolver on Matin’s head and threatened to kill him.
Mr. Amir said that two of his neighbours had seen a Police Inspector beating Matin around 1 a.m. at Kandlur. Matin collapsed and police personnel allegedly threw Matin in the nearby river.
Immediately after recieving the news of the incident, a large number of members of Karnataka Forum for Dignity reached the hospital and after looking at the dead body a press conference was called. KFD demanded an impartial investigation into the death of Matin.
Shashidhar Hemmady, chief of the Kundapur Souharda Vedike, said that the police should reveal the truth behind the incident. The Police inspector concerned was a Sangh Parivar sympathiser.
The vedike had lodged a complaint against the Inspector with the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Gopal B. Hosur. It wanted an impartial probe. The vedike, the PFI and other like-minded organisations would conduct a protest meeting at Shastri Circle in Kundapur on Monday, Mr. Hemmady said.
The state president of Popular front of India, Mr. Abdul Lateef, State executive council member Mr. Sameer, Udupi district president Mr. Abdurrahman, Mr. Gopal Poojari of Congress, Mr. Pratapchandra Shetty, Mr. M A Ghafoor and others were also visited the hospital.
