Adv. N M Siddique Released

altKochi: Noted human rights activist and writer Adv. N M Siddique was released from jail here after 52 days of ordeal. Siddique who was also the Ernakulam district president of National Confederation of Human Rights Organisation (NCHRO) was picked up by the police along with Abdussalam, office in charge, from here following a raid in its office. Police had alleged that they got some incriminating material including those are anti national in nature in the raid. But the only things police presented in the court were some CDs and books which are available in open market.
Though the Kerala High Court had granted them bail on 2nd of this month, it was with a condition that they could be released only on 13th.
It was alleged that Siddique was arrested as part of revenge from the part of police for sending complaints to national human rights commission against Muslim witch-hunt by the authorities towards Muslims under the guise of investigation in the teacher assault case. The Commission had sought a report on it from Kerala DGP.
Adv. Siddique, after coming out of jail at Mattanchery, said that from then onwards he had to fight for safeguarding his own human rights. Human rights activity in the state has become dangerous now. If you are speaking against state terrorism the chances are more for you to be put behind bars under one pretext or another, he added.
