Seminar on Denial of Citizenship
Date : 13 March 2012
Time: 2.30pm to 5.30pm.
Venue: Deputy Chairman Hall- Constitution Club New Delhi.
National Confederation of Human Rights Organizations (NCHRO) is a nationwide organisation working for the protection of human rights. A fact- finding team sent by NCHRO recently to Assam has identified extensive rights violations in the name of “D” voters , whose citizenship is not confirmed as they are suspected to be illegal migrants and hence ‘doubtful’. This matter is a serious cause of concern. In the state innocent people are facing problem at political and social level. They are being considered as illegal Bangladeshi migrants by locals. Successive governments of Assam have failed to address this problem and the” D” voters are left in limbo, exploited and terrorised by different branches of administration. On 19th Feb NCHRO Assam Chapter and STEM (Society for Total Empowerment of Minorities, a local NGO) jointly held a press conference to highlight this matter.
Under this circumstance, NCHRO has proposed to organise a ‘seminar on denial of citizenship’ in Deputy Chairman Hall- Constitution Club at New Delhi on 13 March 2012 (Time: 2.30pm to 5.30pm) to give wider coverage and to attract attention at national level. The seminar will be attended by eminent activists including political leaders, lawyers, academicians, civil and human rights activists from different parts of the country. A number of victims from Assam are also coming to narrate the problems they face.
We would like to invite you to attend the seminar and share your views with the delegates.
