Authorities probing PAC role in fresh Muzaffarnagar killings

LUCKNOW: Authorities are probing whether provincial armed constabulary (PAC) jawans had actually shot dead three Muslim youths at Hussainpur in Uttar Pradesh’s communal riot-hit Muzaffarnagar district on Wednesday. Inspector General (special task force) Ashish Gupta confirmed the probe was under way and the findings were awaited.


The probe began after Hussainpur residents approached additional DM Indra Mani Tripathi and ASP (Rural) Alok Priyadarshi and alleged the PAC jawans, accompanying a group of villagers, had fired at the three. Earlier, there were conflicting versions about the sequence of events that led to the killings. It was initially the three were beaten to death.
