The Brutal Rape and Murder of Jisha shows that life for Poor women is as Savage as ever

alt5th May 2016,Perumbavoor , Kerala :  Jisha, a law student who hailed from a poor family, was allegedly subjected to rape and brutal assault using sharp edged weapons before being murdered at her house in Perumbavoor on April 28. No formal arrest has been made yet in the crime that shocked the State.

NCHRO Team visited the ailing mother of the victim admitted to a hospital in Perumbavoor and said that the culprits should be brought to justice at the earliest. The law student’s lifeless body showed signs that she’d been strangled, tortured and sexually assaulted, before she died in the small, run down home she shared with her family in Perumbavoor, Kerala.
NCHRO demanded the rehabilitation of her mother and sister. The Team noted that whenever  a Dalit girls dies, Governments’ role shrinked to mere announcement of Financial aid. Successive governments have failed to provide security for her family.
Oppression and inequality are disproportionately spread, according to income and caste.

The team led by the NCHRO Kerala Chapter President Vilayodi Sivankutty, First visited Jisha’s mother and sister at Perumbavoor Taluk Hospital and noted that the ward and thereafter  the room admitted her mother  do not have basic facilities.
Despite the  visit of many State & Central Ministers, National Women’s Commission Chairperson,  Still she is in a hospital room of shabby condition. The NCHRO team demanded the immediate change of the facility to a decent one.
The Team also visited her house at Vattolippadi, Periyar Valley and Spoke in detail with the Neighbors and Panchayat member.
The team inquired and collected details of the incident from Panchayat Member Cigi Saju. The team came to know that Jisha and mother lodged several complaints at the Kuruppumpady police station; accordingly the  team filed an RTI application to get the details.
