NCHRO Delegation lead by NCHRO Kerala Chapter State President, Vilayodi Shivankutty met Smt.Rekha Sharma on justice for Mrs Dr Akhila@Hadiya and other victims. The Delegation submitted the below memorandum.
7th Nov 2017
The Honorable Chairperson
National Commission for Women
Sub: Justice for Mrs Dr Akhila@Hadiya and other victims
NCHRO (National Confederation of Human Rights Organizations) Kerala Chapter is a non-governmental nationwide network of human rights organizations, engaged in the protection of human rights in every aspects for the last two decades.
We would like to bring to your kind notice that the women in kerala and elsewhere have all through the ages have been adopting the religion and life partners of their choice. In kerala, interreligious marriages being popular between various communities, we have been enjoying social harmony and respecting the basic human rights of the women.
But recently some anti- social and anti- women organizations have tried to whip up communal tension by fabricating and falsely reporting the case of Mrs Dr Akhila @ Hadiya who has been living a normal and happy life with the religion of her comfort for the last three years.
This is an audacious attempt to crush the human dignity, freedom and attack on the basic fundamental rights of the women enshrined by the constitution.
Mrs Dr Akhila @Hadiya has virtually been confined to her parents’ house where she has been subjected to force feeding of sedatives and torture to break her spirit and resistance. It has been revealed in the latest Documentary film Directed by Prominent Documentary Director Mr Gopal Menon.
The NCHRO on the 24th of October 2017 wrote to the state Human rights commission to send a medical investigation team for a medical check-up of Mrs Dr. Akhila Hadiya. But our plea has been ignored and even the women’s commission of the state of kerala has not visited the above victim.
On the 25th of September various electronic media reported that a lady named Dr. SWETHA a medical doctor by profession underwent severe mental torture in Shiva Shakthi Yoga Kendra for Marrying a Christian man. She revealed that 65 other women of various religions were being illegally held at the centre and being pressurized to convert to Hinduism. Now the where-abouts of many of them are unknown. She also said that 2 more ladies from Hyderabad and Kannur have contacted her by phone and pledged support to her. They also requested her to file cases against the shiva shakthi Kendra on their behalf also. On this regard we have submitted a written complaint to the honorable chief Justice of Kerala and Director General of Police, Kerala state. Some action has also been initiated for the arrest of Mr. K R Manoj@ Guruji but he has got an anticipatory bail because of the leniency of the state government pleader.
We now fear for Mrs Dr Akhila Hadiya’s life as she is now under the directive of the honorable Supreme Court to be produced and her statement recorded on 27th of Nov 2017.
But please remember that the victim represents the women of India and the forceful suppression of her freewill and defeat will be a slap in the face of women’s empowerment, women’s equality and women’s rights and justice.
The National commission for women is therefore kindly requested to un partially help secure the release of Mrs Dr. Akhila @Hadiya from wrongful and forceful detention and uphold the dignity, honor and respect of women in India and defeat the agenda of anti-national elements to communalize the state of Kerala.
President NCHRO, Kerala Chapter
