“Human Rights are Indivisible” – NCHRO launches Human Rights Day Poster Campaign – 2017
2017 marks the 69th anniversary of adoption of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, commemorated by the world community each year on December 10th. On this day, by reaffirming the importance of protecting the dignity of every human being, NCHRO conducted a poster campaign with the theme “Human Rights are Indivisible”.
United Nations has declared the indivisibility, interdependency, and interrelatedness of human rights to be beyond dispute. Yet in practice a significant divide remains, whether they relate to civil, cultural, economic, political or social issues. All human rights have equal status, and cannot be positioned in a hierarchical order. Denial of one right invariably impedes enjoyment of other rights. Thus, the right of everyone to an adequate standard of living cannot be compromised at the expense of other rights. Human rights all work together and we need them all. The indivisibility principle recognizes that a government cannot pick and choose which rights it will uphold for the people; each right is necessary and affects the others.
This NCHRO poster campaign puts the issue of human rights, quite literally, in front of our eyes. The aim was to make the people aware of the issue of human rights. This poster campaign is another demonstration of that fact to ensure that this message reaches peoples across the country in many different languages such as Hindi, English, Tamil, Kannada, Telugu and Malayalam etc.
At a time where human rights violations are rising at alarming rates across our nation, this campaign reminds us that all Indians have a right to feel safe and secure.
