NCHRO expresses its deep condolences on the death of Vira Sathidar
The National Confederation of Human Rights Organisations is shocked and saddened to learn that the 62 year old activist, Vira Sathedar, has passed away this past Tuesday, on April 13, 2021.
Vira Sathidar was also the founder of the political magazine Vidrohi, along with Sudhir Dhawale, who is currently in jail in the Bhima Koregaon case. Vira Sathidar himself had been hounded by the NIA in the same case.
Along with the long list of his political activities, he was also the president of the Maharashtra committee of the National Confederation of Human Rights Organisations. Sathidar had been a courageous voice in the anti-caste struggle and the struggle of workers in Nagpur. He had also found a union there in the mill in which he used to work, and had later on come to be associated with many writers’ association, all of whom were naturally political.
We are deeply saddened to hear that Vira Sathedar has passed away after struggling with COVID19 for about a week. His work and spirit lives on and will continue to be a part of the overall struggle against injustice.
