Upon complaint from NCHRO, NHRC issued notice to SP and DM in Jharkhand in case of stripping and parading naked two individuals

On September 29, 2021, a man and woman in the Dumka district of Jharkhand were stripped and paraded naked for being in an extra-marital relationship.

Against this incident, human rights organisation the National Confederation of Human Rights Organisations (NCHRO) filed a complaint in the National Human Rights Commission. The complaint was filed by Adv. Ansar Indori, the National Secretary of the organisation on September 30, 2021.

The NHRC has responded to the complaint, issuing notice to the Superintendent of Police and District Magistrate of the area

“The District Magistrate, Dumka, Jharkhand is directed to provide the adequate monetary compensation to the victim for her rehabilitation as per the state law and to transmit the copy of proof of payment, so made to the Commission within eight weeks positively,” said the notice.

We had urged the NHRC to ensure a fair trial in the case and provide compensation to the victim.
