NCHRO sent letter Director General of Prison Department, Maharashtra: Asks for relaxation in GN Saibaba’s incarceration
Dr. GN Saibaba, who is 90% physically challenged, is lockeed up in an Anda cell in the Nagpur central prison. Recently, news came of his
second hunger strike, after the administration set up a CCTV camera before his cell. The camera records him 24×7.The move has been criticized by many organisations for its violation
of privacy and dignity. Dr. GN Saibaba’s family also wrote to the Home Minister of Maharashtra to remove the CCTV. After Dr. Saibaba’s hunger strike, the direction of the camera was changed. However, his health
has deteriorated seriously.
Human rights organisation the National Confederation of Human Rights
Organisations (NCHRO) wrote a letter to the Director General of Prison
Department in Maharashtra. The organisation has reiterated the demands
made by Dr. GN, Saibaba and his family, including not just removal of the CCTV camera but also shifting him out of the Anda cell abd transferring him to the Cherapally prison in Hyderabad.
We hope that our demands will be heeded. What GN Saibaba is made to go
through is inhumane and unjust. We urge other organisations and
individuals to also speak against it and support his demands.
