NCHRO’s program on bulldozer policy concluded successfully

On International Anti-Torture Day, June 26, 2022, the Delhi chapter of human rights organisation the National Confederation of Human Rights Organisations (NCHRO) organised a program on bulldozer policy that the BJP government has undertaken.

The bulldozer policy is a new tactic of the government, demolishing houses of the people who have participated in protests.

The said program had three speakers, namely Sumedha Pal from The Wire, Shabnam Nafisa Kalim, and Asif Mujtaba. They spoke about the victimisation of Muslims under the current regime and the BJP’s project of Hindu nationalism.

The first speaker sumedha pal share her thoughts and experience from the ground about rise of buldozer politics. She elaborated about how different states like Mp uttarparesh rajasthan and Delhi have used buldozer to drive Islamophobic poltics against the Muslim community to destroy their livelihoods. this in turn legtamized using the buldozer as a state machinery to threaten the Indian muslims.

The second speaker Shabnam nafisa kalim who has been actively involved at the ground since the jaghirpuri buldozer drive related individual stories of the plight of the people who live and homes were crush . She higlited the need and urgency of building a collective muslim voice to advocate against the state oppression.

Final speaker Aasif Mujtaba gave a detailed account of the many atrocities against Muslim since the past seventy years .he hilighted the constitutional loop holes that have kept the Muslim community of India Out side of the political power . He reiterated the need for gaining socio political power and representation of Muslim with in the electoral politics with in the frame work of the constitution .furthermore he suggested that vote ,court and resistance are the three tools that the constitution empowers the Muslim community with . In the end he concluded his talk with following quote – “If one is attacked as a Jew, one must defend oneself as a Jew. Not as a German, not as a world-citizen, not as an upholder of the Rights of Man.”

The meeting concluded with an open discussion and qna between the speakers and the attending members of the civil society.
The program ended with a vote of thanks by Shoeb Ahmad, secratary of the Delhi chapter of NCHRO.
