Woman set ablaze in Guna, MP over land issue: NCHRO says will release report soon

On July 2, 2022, a 38-year-old tribal woman in Guna, Madhya Pradesh was set on fire by a group of people, including two women. The incident occurred after the victim objected to the accused’s ploughing her land.

The victim belongs to a Scheduled Tribe community, namely yhe Saharia tribe, and had been given the land under the CM welfare scheme during the previous government.

She is currently in a critical condition and is being treated in Hamidia hospital in Bhopal.

Human rights organisation the National Confederation of Human Rights Organisations (NCHRO) had visited the area a few weeks ago. The victim had been threatened earlier on by the accused as well. The report of the visit by the human rights organisation will be released soon.

The tribals in this country have long been abused and dispossessed of their land. We must stand in solidarity with their struggle for dignity and land.

We condemn the recent Act and demand the victim be compensated adequately, and that the perpetrators be brought to justice.
