NCHRO filed complaint in NHRC against death of labourers in Gurugram, Haryana

On August 2, 2022, four labourers standing on a platform slipped and fell 17 floors to their death at a housing site in Sector 77. A fifth survived the fall and is currently in the emergency ward of a private hospital. The accident occurred inside the compound of Emaar Palm Hills – where a 25-storey tower is being built. The five workers were said to be fixing a tower crane on the 17th floor of the building when one of them slipped. As he slipped, all others lost balance and fell off the plank. They were rushed to the Civil Hospital, but were declared dead on arrival. They are reported to not have been wearing proper safety equipment.

Against this incident, human rights organisation the National Confederation of Human Rights Organisations (NCHRO) filed a complaint in the National Human Rights Commission. The complaint was filed by the National Secretary of the organisation, Adv. Ansar Indori on August 3, 2022.

It should be noted that the safety of the workers are the responsibility of the employer, and in this case, owing to negligence of the employer, four labourers have lost their lives. We have sought the intervention of NHRC in the matter to ensure a fair trial, as well as compensation to the family of the victims
